Canadian Challenger
Stits Finishing & Painting Estimates

The information contained in this document is intended for the sole use of Canadian Challenger owners and is strictly proprietary and confidential.

Stits Poly-Fiber System with Poly-Tone Paint

The Stits Poly-Fiber System with Poly-Tone paint is the most common choice for covering and painting Challengers in Canada. High gloss systems such as Superflite and Stits Aerothane are also used but are more expensive and for various reasons most people consider them harder to work with.

You can discuss covering and painting further with the professional builders listed in The Canadian Challenger Owner's Manual (See Building chapter for contact info) or with other owners and builders on the Challenger e-mail list.

These people can also detail how higher gloss finishes may be obtained from Poly-Tone by slowing the drying time using chilled paint or Blush Retarder.

The price of Poly-Tone varies by colour - white is cheapest and red is most expensive. Shipping companies levy a "Dangerous Goods" surcharge.

QUANTITIES ARE ESTIMATES ONLY. THE USE OF AN HVLP SPRAY SYSTEM IS ASSUMED. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY! The actual quantities which will be used depend on numerous considerations, especially on the technique of the builder/painter. The Poly-Tak and Tape quantities shown are over and above what is shipped with the Challenger kit.

The 'Sparing' and 'Generous' figures are based on a recent survey of Challenger builders. For Liquids, a first-time painter using the 'Sparing' quantities may not be obtaining sufficient coverage. Using more than the 'Generous' quantities will result in excess cost and weight. For Tapes, some builders add or substitute the items shown in the 'Generous' column.

All purchases are final - there are no returns. If you order too much then the excess is available for repairs (but the shelf life is not unlimited). If you order too little then you may run out at a very awkward time plus your shipping costs will be higher. There is no guaranteed quantity for the first time painter!
