The information contained in this document is intended for the sole use of Canadian Challenger owners and is strictly proprietary and confidential. The Canadian Challenger Owners Manual has a variety of useful
links Aero Controls in Salmon Arm, BC sells popular throttle quadrants and splitter cables. Their affiliate Light Engine Services (LES) is a Rotax Service Centre plus it carries engine instruments and other items such as fuel line, props, etc. Order Line 1-866-418-4164 / Support 250-832-8786 Aircraft Spruce now has a substantial Canadian presence including full access to their extensive inventory at Aircraft Spruce & Specialty in the United States. They carry everything from fasteners to tools - AN nuts and bolts to Clecos - at competitive prices. They also offer GPS units, headsets, intercoms, flight bags, books, videos and other pilot supplies but for these items best to do some comparison shopping, for example at VIP Pilot Supply. Aviation World in Mississauga, ON has an eclectic mix of avionics, books and model planes. A fun place to browse if you're in town! Prices for avionics tend to be on the high side so make sure you do some comparison shopping! CPS in California has a catalogue which includes a wide variety of ultralight items plus very useful engine diagrams as well as extensive maintenance and tuning tips. They charge a few bucks for the catalogue but it's well worth it. Challenger owners are extremely fortunate to have a large and capable owners association. The Canadian chapter of the International Challenger Owners Association is headed by Major Claude Roy of Ottawa. You can contact Claude via email by clicking above or via phone at 613-836-7243. In Canada we have summer and winter Challenger fly-ins as well as numerous other activities. The best way to stay informed about the Canadian Challenger world is through our web site: www.challenger.ca. The Challenger Owners Association is unique in Canada and is an invaluable asset to all owners. Take advantage of it and participate in the activities. You will make new flying friends and it will greatly enhance your enjoyment and knowledge of the Challenger. Comtronics Engineering in Connecticut makes excellent intercoms, headsets and helmets with noise reduction circuitry designed for the sound frequencies found in Challengers. Most other units on the market are designed for general aviation aircraft which have different noise characteristics. If you have a radio, tell Comtronics the make and model number so they can provide you with an interface cable and push to talk switch. You can also integrate your cell phone! The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association represents the interests of the Challenger community and offers members many useful benefits including a comprehensive monthly aviation newspaper with a section devoted to the Canadian ultralight scene. COPA also uses the group purchasing power of its over 18,000 members to negotiate an excellent aviation insurance program. You can reach COPA headquarters in Ottawa at 613-236-4901. Endura Manufacturing in Edmonton, AB makes a well regarded paint called (logically enough) Endura. Endura is a very shiny paint much like Stits Aerothane but easier to spray, less brittle, and much more affordable. Many Challengers have an Endura colour coat over Stits Poly-Brush and Poly-Spray. Endura has a toll free number: 1-800-661-9930. Garmin makes the most popular GPS navigation
units for aviators. Goulet Aircraft Supply (no relation
to Dave Goulet) with head office in GPS Central in Calgary is a great source
for GPS units and software. Icom makes the most popular communication
radios for Challengers. Metal Supermarkets sells metal in small
quantities via stores Turbulence Aviation in Quebec is like a supermarket for Challenger goodies. National Ultralight distributes the wide variety of Turbulence designed accessories such as skis, covers, seats, interiors, belly bags, etc. Update: As of 2015
Turbulence Aviation continues to manufacture skis however
covers, seats, interiors, belly bags, etc The Ultralight Pilots Association of Canada represents the interests of ultralight owners and pilots. Their full colour monthly publication is called Light Flight. VIP Pilot Centre in Montreal is a great source for avionics - GPS, radios, etc. Their prices are usually the lowest in Canada and their customer support is terrific. Browse their site or order the free catalogue from 1-800-361-1696. A rule of thumb is to comparison shop because prices do vary, sometimes considerably. There is no one single source with the best price for everything. Another rule of thumb is to buy in Canada whenever possible since cross border shipping involves customs brokerage charges which can be greater than the price of smaller items. Plus if you ever need warranty service on a radio, GPS, etc you have to get it serviced in the country where purchased so you're much better off in terms of time and money shipping to the Canadian distributor for service rather than going back and forth to the US. Remember that with airplanes less is better - you will reduce cost, weight, build time and future maintenance. The plane with less stuff always performs better!
