The information contained in this document is intended for the sole use of Canadian Challenger owners and is strictly proprietary and confidential. This sub-section contains the forms and information required to register your Challenger in either the Basic Ultralight or the Advanced Ultralight category. First, pay close attention to the Registration Readme before continuing! How
To Register Your Challenger As An Advanced Ultralight The above serve as roadmaps to registering your Challenger
in the The following elaborate on the Readme and Roadmaps: This is a list of Transport Canada regional offices with phone numbers and mailing addresses. You can ask questions, get forms and submit applications. Click above for a Transport Canada Application For Registration
form. This example fills in the Application For Registration with
the required If you have any model other than the XL-65 contact us for the correct entries for each box. If you submit the form with incorrect entries, no matter how trivial the error, your application will be delayed for weeks or months! In the top section be sure to fill in the full 'Serial Number'
and registration marks if already issued as well as the 'Year Of Assembly'
and 'Base Of Operation'. The base factory Empty Weight is shown. If you actually weigh the aircraft (there is no requirement to do so) then it must meet the Minimum Useful Load requirement for AULA - the difference between the Takeoff Weight and the Empty Weight must be at least 382.5 for the 582 or 375 for the 503. You must make a stainless steel aircraft identification plate and attach it with stainless rivets to an easily visible part of the airframe. (Most people affix it above the rear cushion.) The plate must be engraved with the name of the manufacturer, the model of airplane, and your serial number. Make sure you get this EXACTLY right or Transport will make you do it over again! There are no mandatory dimensions for this plate (3"x4" should suffice). This may be sourced from an aircraft supply house or a trophy / engraving shop. The above image is an example of the Bill Of Sale that must
be submitted For the initial registration of an imported aircraft Transport Canada requires proof that the aircraft was not previously registered in another country. The above link shows an example of the document issued by National Ultralight to owners which certifies that the Challenger was imported as a kit and therefore was not previously registered elsewhere. The alternative would be to obtain a certificate of nonregistration or deregistration from the country of manufacture. This is the most important document for registration in the Advanced category. It establishes that your specific Challenger conforms to the design on the Transport Canada Approved List. As explained elsewhere in this sub-section, an inspection is now required to obtain an SOC. The top part of the form must be completed by the inspector. The bottom half is completed by the owner. This document is completed by the owner and sent to National
Ultralight, You can get custom registration letters
for your Challenger. Since the fall of 1996 all ultralights are identified
by C-Ixxx where xxx is any three letters. Last but not least, once your Challenger has been registered make sure it is actually in the category you intended. There are two known cases where the proper paperwork was submitted for the Advanced category but the plane ended up in Basic. Use the above link to the online Transport Canada Registration Database to check your status. Check the "Flight Authority" field. If it says 'Nil Advanced Ultra-light' then you are in the Advanced category. If it says 'Nil Ultra-light' then your plane is in the Basic category. If that is wrong just get in touch with Transport and they'll apologize profusely and fix it.
